Pacific Web 2.0 Field Trip - Nadi Bay HERBS

A five-day regional training for Pacific island countries and territories was held in Nadi, Fiji from 16–20 September where 27 participants from 12 Pacific states (Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu) learned about the use of social media as a web 2.0 innovation to create and share content for information exchange. Representatives were not only from Government departments but also from non-government agencies like the SPC/GIZ Pacific German Regional Cooperation (GIZ) and the International Fund for Agricultural
Development (IFAD), Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises and Development in Fiji (FRIEND), Women in Development, Oxfam International and World Vision.

The Land Resources Division of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community in partnership with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation EU-ACP (CTA) is hosting the web 2.0 and information exchange training. This is in the framework of the upcoming launch of the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards) organized by the CTA - ARDYIS project of which SPC is a key partner. In the face of agricultural development, the use of web 2.0-social media innovations encourages users to look at some examples from around the world of ways to engage youths in agriculture.

On the third day of the workshop, the Web 2.0 tool trainers/ Participants had a field trip to the Nadi Bay HERBS site to discover the peri-organinic agriculture supply in encouraging participants to write a blog on agriculture development. participants were pick up on a Bus to the Agriculture site and were introduce to the Farm Manager who take the team for field talk experience and physical basic support from the owner in produce, productivity and planting technologies.

One of the aims and objective in this field trip is to recognizing the needs of food security, poverty alleviation, employment and economic growth, and use blog as a tool to produce a new generation of farmers in each member countries, and to encourage young people to become farmers, and give them ability to do so.
Mrs Anju Mangal and Andrew supports the arrangement of this trip and part of the team to conduct
the facilitation of the trip in promoting youth and agriculture activity on an online environment for people to exchange information and ideas on agricultural practices.
Much of the experience has been shared by the Farm manager and a lot of Question and Comments has been discuss.

Given an example at the farm site is using a peri-organic agriculture practices and this is an essential
part of using media blog to share products and seek customers which will attract the services of it's demand.

The Nursery was an important part of it's multiplication of planting materials to support the farming continuous improvement.
